See updated news of Section 1’s Development League plan at the bottom
The NYSPHSAA has not yet officially released the approved BEDS enrollment numbers for the 2018-19 school year. But I’ve obtained a copy of what they will almost certainly – and it will have a significant impact on each class in Section 1 football.
Among the biggest takeaways is several schools dropping from Class AA to Class A this fall following the state moving the Class AA cutoff from 930 in 2017 to 1,025 in 2018:
GOING FROM CLASS AA to CLASS A (cutoff 1,025)
Spring Valley (1,021)
Fox Lane (1,008)
Clarkstown North (1,006)
Clarkstown South (1,001)
Horace Greeley (951)
GOING FROM CLASS A to CLASS B (cutoff 585)
*Lourdes (559)
Note: Byram Hills (590), Pearl River (588) barely missed cutoff
GOING FROM CLASS B to CLASS C (cutoff 355)
Valhalla (352)
GOING FROM CLASS C to CLASS B (cutoff 355)
*Albertus Magnus (377)
* – All Section 1 private schools in ALL sports are subject to classification review this summer. Section 1 evaluates each individual program on a two-year basis.
Here is a copy of the complete document:
2018-19 School Enrollment Numbers – Final
UPDATED (Feb. 6, 9:15 a.m.): Section 1 is also in the final stages of finalizing a plan for seven schools to go independent. The teams it will include:
Blind Brook
Edgemont
Hastings
Briarcliff
Rye Neck
Irvington
Croton-Harmon
These schools will play each other, as well as tournament-eligible Section 1 opponents at the B, C and D levels.
Eligible for Section 1 titles and state tournament play will only be 3 remaining Class C teams (Valhalla, Dobbs Ferry and Woodlands) and 2 Class D programs (Haldane and Tuckahoe).
