Voting for the third Section 1 Girls Flag Football Player of the Week Award is open now. Nominations are submitted by the coaches and are based on games played April 26-30.

Carlie Brien, Eastchester. In the Eagles’ only game last week, Brien shined. She caught two passes for 92 yards and two touchdowns. On defense, Brien had a 70-yard interception return for a touchdown and came up with several flag pulls in the Eagles’ 28-21 win over Somers.
Faith Poniros, Mahopac. Poniros led Mahopac to a week with two wins and a tie by contributed in all three phases of the game. She ran for 110 total yards, two touchdowns and a conversion on offense, to go along with 10 receptions for 150 yards and a score. She also came up with 16 tackles on defense and averaged 30 yards on her five punts.
Nichole Ljuljic, Lakeland. The junior captain scored five total touchdowns in two games last week – three passing, one receiving and one on an interception return. Ljuljic, also a basketball standout, currently has 19 total touchdowns, over 1,000 total yards, and five defensive INTs on the season.
Cara Persico, Somers. The Tuskers star was the catalyst in all three games last week. She had 41 total yards and six flag pulls in a shutout against Peekskill. Against Eastchester, she had 82 yards rushing, including a 24-yard touchdown and conversion, along with 25 yards receiving and two tackles on defense. Against Brewster, Persico contributes 111 yards rushing and two touchdowns, 71 yards receiving and 14 flag pulls on defense.
Anna Pailitti, Tappan Zee. After teammate Eve Girardi carried the offense early in the season, Palitti has been an emerging star in the last five games. Last week, she had a breakout four-touchdown receiving performance in a 34-7 win over Peekskill. She followed that by catching two more touchdowns in a 34-0 rout of Hudson River Trailblazers.
