Carmel moved one step closer to realizing its destiny.

The unbeaten Rams continued their domination of 2021, rolling over Newburgh Free Academy, 47-13, in the NYSPHSAA Class AA Semifinals at Middletown High School. The Rams advanced to Saturday’s state championship game against Buffalo powerhouse Bennett at the Carrier Dome in Syracuse. Kickoff is at 3 p.m.

It’s the first ever state championship game appearance for Carmel and head coach Todd Cayea, who is in his 32nd season.

Check out Cayea, who allowed us to take an All-Access look at Friday’s victory, in this video:

Dylan Shields ran for three touchdowns for Carmel, which improved to 12-0 on the season. The Rams have outscored their opponents by a 470-69 margin on the year and have not had a game closer than 24 points. They’ve outscored their two state tournament opponents by a 98-20 margin.
