George Dunhill led a furious fourth-quarter charge in Tuesday’s Section 1 Class C boys lacrosse final. And after he scored arguably the biggest goal in Pelham history in overtime, he dropped to his knees, laid on his back and let the other two dozen players on the team pile up on top of him.
Dunhill’s dramatics capped a jaw-dropping evening for Pelham. Down by four goals at the half and three with under three minutes to play, the Pelicans rallied for a 9-8 overtime win over Rye in the title game at Lakeland High School.
Pelham, which claimed its first Section 1 title, scored three times in a 47-second span late in the fourth quarter, including the tying goal by Devin Alvarez-O’Rourke with 1:36 to play. In overtime, Pelham won the faceoff and — after a near turnover — Dunhill rushed the cage and fired in his fourth goal after halftime.
