PLAAYoff highlights: John Jay takes home Class B crown, tops Yorktown (VIDEO)

John Jay-Cross River knocked off Yorktown in the second week of the regular season back in early April. The feeling was that, as impressive as it was to do that in April, it won’t matter come late May.

The Indians, however, showed the exact same level of toughness and poise in the Section 1 Class B championship in the scorching heat on Tuesday as they did back on that chilly night in the first meeting. John Jay raced out to a three-goal lead in the first quarter and fought off a furious fourth-quarter rally to pull out a 10-8 victory in the title game.

Sean Nolan scored three goals and Bryce Ford added a pair for John Jay, which won its first Section 1 title since 2010. The Indians had lost to Yorktown in five of the past six championship matchups.

Yorktown, which had won the previous six Class B crowns and 12 of the last 13, pulled within a goal in the fourth quarter.

Hunter Embury scored three times in the fourth and Jamison Embury’s goal made it 8-7 with 4:15 left. But Dean Ford’s tally with 3:20 left was followed by Bryce Ford’s goal less than a minute later to seal it.
