A year ago it was regarded among the biggest upsets in Section 1 lacrosse history. But on Thursday, Westlake’s playoff win over Bronxville had almost a familiar feel to it.
The Wildcats dug out of an early hole and ran away for a convincing 18-10 victory in a Section 1 Class D semifinal played at Byram Hills High School, landing the defending champs and state finalists back in the title game.
Game Highlights produced via the PLAAY Sports app:
Westlake will take on arch-rival Pleasantville for the Section 1 championship on Wednesday at Lakeland High School.
The second-seeded Wildcats will hope they can carry the momentum from Thursday’s performance into the game five days from now as they dominated on faceoffs, controlled possession and burned Bronxville with their speed.
Rob DiNota and Greg Cafaro each scored five goals in the win. Ryan Donnery added three goals and five assists and Dylan Donnery had two goals and three assists.
Griffin Gelinas and Alston Tarry each had three goals for Bronxville.
