It may only be a few weeks into the season in Section 1 boys lacrosse, but John Jay-Cross River made a major statement at home on Friday night.
The Indians upset six-time Class B champion Yorktown, 7-6, in a showdown of the Hudson Valley’s top two teams. Bryce Ford had a goal and two assists and Shahe Katchadurian made eight saves in the victory.
John Jay twice squandered a two-goal lead and actually trailed Yorktown 5-4 late in the third quarter after Jamison Embury’s fourth goal of the night. But the Indians tied it on Charlie Horan’s goal late in the third and went ahead on goals by Ford and Jack Gorman.
