The Ossining girls found themselves in an unfamiliar situation on Saturday afternoon. Not only were the Pride losing in the third quarter of a championship game. For the first time in nearly decade, they were getting beaten up pretty handily by a Section 1 opponent.
Aubrey Griffin put Ossining on her shoulders in the second half and carried them back from that 11-point deficit. The junior guard scored 46 points, earning MVP honors, and delivering the Pride an eighth consecutive Section 1 title with a 75-63 win over Our Lady of Lourdes in the Class AA final at Pace University.
Griffin, the sister of Stepinac stars Alan (a U. of Illinois commit) and A.J. Griffin, scored 24 of her 46 points in the third quarter as Ossining turned an 11-point halftime deficit into a four-point lead entering the fourth.
“It’s amazing to watch,” Ossining forward Kailah Harris said. “We know what she’s capable of. When she plays to her ability, she’s fun to watch.”
Harris earned all-tournament honors after a productive afternoon of her own. The third-year starter registered 17 points and 11 rebounds in the win.
Griffin put on the show of the weekend in the Section 1 title game. She shot 16 of 37 from the field, connecting on a pair of 3-pointers, and recording nine rebounds and two assists.
She outdueled Lourdes star Maddy Siegrist in a showdown of the Hudson Valley’s top two players. Siegrist, a senior headed to Villanova, had 27 points, 15 rebounds and four assists.
