Mount Vernon is in the Section 1 championship for the 20th season in a row. But it wasn’t without a bit of a scare from Horace Greeley.
The Knights were tied at the half before riding the hot hand of Jason Douglas-Stanley after the break. The George Mason-bound senior dropped 38 points in a 91-80 victory over the fourth-seeded Quakers in a Class AA semifinal on Wednesday at the County Center.
Mount Vernon, the top seed and defending state champion, will face the winner of Ramapo and Mamaroneck in the Section 1 title game on Saturday at Pace University. The game will tip at 11:30 a.m. and will be streamed lived by the Pace Sports Network.
Troy Hupstead, a sophomore center, had 13 points and 15 rebounds in the win. Demetre Roberts had 11 points and 10 assists and Demetrius Lee added 10 points and 10 assists.
Greg Karr led Horace Greeley with 23 points.
