The 46-year wait is over: Mamaroneck is County Center-bound
If Section 1 playoff games were, in fact, not held this year at the Westchester County Center as initially planned, no community would have been hit harder than Mamaroneck.
A four-decade drought wouldn’t have ended on Friday night as it did with Mamaroneck’s gritty 49-42 win over Spring Valley in the Section 1 Class AA quarterfinals. The win earns the third-seeded Tigers a trip to the County Center for Wednesday’s semifinals against No. 18 seed Ramapo.
“I’ve been waiting for this my entire life,” Mamaroneck coach Tyrone Carver said. “My goal was always to get there as a player. That didn’t happen. And I’ve been trying to get there as a coach and now it’s finally happened.”
