And the best league in Section 1 is…

Don’t let stats get in the way of a good argument.

Every year in Section 1 basketball, there’s a debate over which league is the best on the boys and girls side. Many league are top heavy. Several are extremely balanced. The ideal way to prove that is by adding up the records for non-league games and comparing them. And I’ve done that below.

The boys league in Section 1 shouldn’t a surprise: League 1-B (with Mount Vernon, New Rochelle, Mamaroneck, White Plains and Scarsdale) finished at the top of the top when I subtracted league records from overall records and combined every team in each league.

Want an edge in filling out your bracket, check out the strength of each league. Here is the breakdown for each:

Best League - Boys

League 2-D, led by Byram Hills and Rye, had the second strongest showing out of the league. Byram Hills and Rye shared the league title.

Congrats to each of the league standings. The winners on the boys side:

Now to the girls side, which was a lot tighter at the top.

League 2-C, led by John Jay-Cross River and Somers, was Section 1’s best girls league. Amazingly, none of the Class AA leagues finished in the Top 5 in wining percentage. Here’s the breakdown:
